The Neringa Hotel, designed by architect brothers Algimantas and Vytautas Nasvytis, first opened its doors in 1960. Alongside the Neringa Restaurant, this project became a milestone in architecture, a national symbol of modernism, and an important cultural event. More than 100 years after its construction, the hotel reopened in the spring of 2021 following a three-year renovation. The authentic design solutions and ideas were inspired by the legendary Neringa Restaurant, reflecting the Lithuanian seaside, warm colors, artistic forms, and local materials.
Neringa Restaurant
One of the most remarkable pieces of Lithuanian architecture from the 1950s, Neringa Restaurant has been a gathering place for the cultural elite and bohemian circles since its inception. The restaurant opened on November 6, 1959, in Vilnius, and was conceptualized, named, and executed by architect brothers Algimantas and Vytautas Nasvytis. The name “Neringa” was inspired by Mykolas Sluckis’ book Milžinai nenorėjo karaliais būti, which tells the legend of the Curonian Spit’s formation.
